BITS New Ferry

CANAIPA

There is a new ferry traipsing along on the waters of the Bay Islands. The - aptly named - Canaipa is 24.4 meters long and with its six cylinder twin diesel engines (Cummins QSM11) it has a service speed of 22 knots at 1900 rpm. But should the captain - high on the second level - wish to be the nautical equivalent of Michael Schumacher, he can let go at max speed of 26 knots at 2050 rpm and enjoy the roaring speed and the gasps of the max 180 passengers glued to their seats below him.

The Canaipa is fully air-conditioned and has a large screen tv/dvd, good storage space and state of art engine management system and controls. From its height Canaipa lords it over the older, humbler ferries and majestically follows its route from Redland Bay to Karragarra to Macleay to Lamb to Russell and back.
